Scripture: Proverbs 1:2-3 … for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair…
Observation This kind of life is so rare in our day, in our culture.Signs of a lack of wisdom are everywhere. People lack prudence. They lack self-discipline. The world is falling apart, and though a few realize it, nobody is ‘fearing the LORD’ and looking for his wisdom. This is true of many Christans, I think. Is it true of me?
Applications Is this not the description of the perfect life? Wisdom…self-discipline… prudence… doing rightly, justly, and fairly? It’s the kind of life I want. It’s the kind of reputation I desire for myself. (In a good way, not self-serving.) I want to be known as this kind of man. The words of the Proverbs – and, I think by extension the whole of Scripture – breeds that.
Life application for today Think about God today. Fear him, for that’s where it starts (v7).
