Scripture: Proverbs 1:20-21 Wisdom calls aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares. At the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways she makes her speech, ‘How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?’
Observation You don’t have to look far to find wisdom. A simple look around at our culture and the things our culture values should be enough to see how utterly foolish it is. Wisdom shouts, ‘Look around you. Do you see?’ Wisdom is self-disclosing: Wisdom leads to more wisdom (v23). But we reject it and so then trouble comes and we cry out for help. But wisdom lets us lie in the bed we have made, so we get mad at God. Sigh. We’d rather have the latest fashion than to have wisdom.
Applications ‘Wisdom’: it is not necessarily easy to hear her voice because our culture is so very loud. Or it’s white noise noise, more like it. Do I listen? I don’t think I’m caught up in our culture’s values. I do, though, certainly get caught up in the busyness of the day. But there too, wisdom makes herself heard if I stop to listen.
Life application for today I will stop to hear wisdom, the voice of the LORD.
Prayer Lord, I want to live wisely in accordance with your Word. Help me.
